Homework for Friday, January 20th, 2017 While the rest of America was busy watching the inauguration of President Trump, the students of Hollis Upper Elementary were watching a, dare I say, equally momentous occasion ... the STAFF SPELLING BEE! I am happy to report that with the help of the class, I walked up onto that stage feeling nervous but prepared. Round after round, word after word, it was a blur - but in the end there were only five! Mrs. Nickerson pulled out all the stops and bombarded us with some very difficult words. When the dust had settled there was a four way tie for second place - but only one teacher left standing! Congratulations to Ms. Hansen for winning the 2017 HUES Spelling Bee! Having never made it out of the second round before, I'm proud to be sharing second place with Mrs. White, Mr. Vetack, and Mrs. Anderson - three people who are always in the finals! That said, here's the homework for this weekend ...
![]() As a sixth grade we have been studying the instances of injustice that have occurred in both our nation's past, as well as those occurring throughout the rest of the world. We have begun to learn about many of the men and women who have fought to bring an end to injustice through various means. We are fortunate that there was a recent film that told the story of a group of female, African-American mathematicians who are the minds behind the final calculations that helped NASA put a man into outer space. We will be leaving HUES next Thursday, January 26th and traveling to Cinemagic in Merrimack to watch a private screening of this film. Going home today is the permission slip and health form. We ask that this be filled out and returned, as well as a check (made out to Hollis Upper Elementary), or cash in the amount of $13. The students know that there will be no snack bar, so additional money will not be needed for this trip! Thank you all so much! Homework for Thursday, January 19th, 2017
