After a whirlwind of a day, topped off by a wonderful all-school sing along featuring our talented band and holiday singers, we're ready for break! The kids are sufficiently sugared up and will, no doubt, crash early tonight (you're welcome hahaha). I wanted to say thank you for the wonderful gifts and cards that I received today. Working with your children is such a wonderful and enriching experience that I look forward to each and every day. Wherever you go and whatever you do this holiday season, I wish you nothing but happiness and safety. So Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and the happiest of New Years to each and every one of you. I'll see you all in 2020!

Volleyball Victory

There was a great showing of sportsmanship today as the staff and students took to the gym to battle it out for volleyball supremacy! The students put up a valiant effort but were not able to overcome the odds against them. I'm especially proud of how great the entire grade was as they cheered each other on! Now, there's just one more sleep before Christmas break and our class celebration!

Homework for Thursday, December 19th, 2019
  • Reading for 20 minutes
  • Secret Santa - Tomorrow is the big day! We still have a pair of students who haven't brought in their Secret Santa gift. Please check in with your student to see if they have brought in their gift.

Homework for Wednesday, December 18th, 2019
  • Reading for 20 minutes
  • Math - various projects and fun that the kids have been working on. While not "homework", they are free to continue working on their Song Projects for 6V, 6M, and 6P combined math groupings.
  • Reminder - Tomorrow is both PE day as well as the Staff vs. Student volleyball game in the afternoon. Sneakers are a must, and comfortable attire is encouraged.
  • Secret Santa - If your child has not brought in the gift for their Secret Santa yet, please help them to remember. With the snow day yesterday, I wasn't expecting many to remember that today was the soft deadline for them to come in. Our celebration will be on Friday and I would absolutely hate for someone to be left out because their partner forgot their gift at home. Any and all help is appreciated!

Full Moon Friday the 13th ...

This was the kind of day that you read about in ancient manuscripts. They may have called it a Teacher's Terrifying Trifecta. It isn't often that you find yourself heading into the last week of school before a long break with a full moon overhead, all on a Friday the thirteenth. Yet, all things considered, the kids were amazing today! I can't get over the amount of work that we accomplished.  Biome projects have been completed and hung in the hallway, shoebox archaeology work is nearing its end, and I'm very excited to hang up the other work that they've finished around the room.  Only one more week to go before a nice long break, but we'll make it a great one for sure! I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!

Today was a wonderful time at the theater. For many, it was the first time going to see a play while for others it was old hat. Amazing behavior aside, I was so impressed with the attention that everyone gave to the performers. We all walked away with our favorite stories and I look forward to discussing them more tomorrow!

Homework for Tuesday, December 10th, 2019
  • Reading for 20 minutes
  • Math -
Whatever the homework was for yesterday
  • General - Keep an eye on the weather in case there's a delay tomorrow. There's talk that this new storm won't be nearly as bad as the last one, but it could impact the commute in the morning. As always, your safety is the most important thing to us so a delay would be a good thing!

    Vetack: nothing

  • Field Trip - I'm very excited about the trip to the Capital Center for the Arts tomorrow. As a reminder, you'll need to pack yourself a snack as well as a lunch. When you arrive to school tomorrow, plan to meet me in the cafeteria first thing so that I can get a head count. The buses are leaving at 8:45 so that we can be in Concord for when the doors open at 10:00! Remember, we've discussed how this field trip is a great opportunity to practice theater etiquette, including proper attire. All of the students in the sixth grade have been asked to dress in appropriate theater attire for this trip. While dresses and suits are not the expectation, we would like to encourage the kids to wear something nice (dress pants, a polo shirt or nice blouse). Studies have shown that how we dress can affect behavior, attitudes, personality, mood, confidence, and even the way we interact with others.
